19.1.7 Fitting Peaks with the Peak Analyzer (Pro Only)


If the Fit Peaks radio button is selected in the Goal group in the Start page of the Peak Analyzer, you can use the Peak Analyzer to create a baseline, subtract the baseline from the input data, find peaks and then perform fitting to the peaks. A typical wizard map corresponding to this mode is as follows:

The Baseline Mode page allows you to choose a baseline mode and create a baseline. Then you can use the Baseline Treatment page for subtracting the baseline from the input data and the Find Peaks page for detecting the peaks. Finally, the Fit Peaks page helps you to perform nonlinear fitting of the peaks and the baseline and generate a customized report.

The fitting performed by the Peak Analyzer uses the Levenberg-Marquardt (L-M) algorithm, as in the NLFit tool. The results will be output to a report sheet. You can see a detailed explanation of the results in Interpreting Regression Results section in the Regression and Curve Fitting chapter. To control and monitor the fitting process, you can use the Peak Fit Parameters dialog, which can be opened by clicking the Fit Control button in the Fit Peaks page.

Besides the peak fitting results, the Peak Analyzer also reports peak characteristics. Peak characteristics can be reported in a worksheet and the result graph. You can customize the worksheet report with the Configure Report branch in the Fit Peaks page. To customize the graph report, first use the Configure Graph branches in the Fit Peaks page to select the desired characteristic fields. Your assignments will then show up in the labels in the result graph. Finally, you can drag the labels over to the graph and position them as desired.
