Summary: This tool calculates the circular azimuthal average for a grayscale image. Description: Use this tool to calculate the circular azimuthal average (i.e., the arithmetic mean of the data points located around an azimuth) on a grayscale image. Starting angle and integration angle are used to specify the arc area between two concentric circles. The tool divides the area from (starting angle - integration angle) to (starting angle + integration angle) into the specified number of bins, and then calculates the average intensity for all pixel values in each bin. The result plots the intensity vs. the angle. To install: Drag and drop AziAve.opx into Origin. A toolbar will be added into the Origin workspace. To use: 1) Import a grayscale image into Origin. (If the image is not grayscale, the tool will prompt you to convert it.) 2) Click the tool’s floating button to start it. (Note, if the image is not active, this tool will be unavailable.) You will see a graph showing your grayscale image overlaid with two concentric circles. (The azimuthal average calculation is done over the arc area between the two circles. 3) Set parameters in the floating dialog and click OK when finished. 4) On the graph, click the Calc Azimuthal Ave button to calculate the average of the data points around the azimuth as defined by the parameters displayed in the graph. 5) After calculating, you will see a curve plotted at the bottom left of the graph. 6) Click Settings… to change parameters. You may also move and resize the two circles in the image plot, and the parameters will update accordingly. 7) Click Show Result Sheet to view your result worksheet.
